This morning CNN posted a story about a 9-year-old child who was able to sneak past security and board a flight to Las Vegas. According to an email obtained by the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the child has had a history of behavioral problems and previous offenses include sneaking into a water park and being arrested for stealing a car.
This story is an interesting topic because it opens up a lot of questions regarding the child’s behavioral issues, parenting strategies, and most importantly, the lack of airport security.
No pictures of the child or the family were included in the story, thus the story was covered from the angle of flawed airport security. Two videos were provided by CNN. The first video gave the details of the story and showed clips of the airport and shots of the security officers and flight attendants on duty. This video gave a good visual aspect to the story because it depicted the stages that the boy was able to pass through without previous questioning.
The second video consisted of a group of individuals talking about this story. Frances Townsend, a CNN National Security Analyst, was one of the individuals who took part in the conversation. The group’s conversation brought up good key points and issues surrounding the story.
